Kawerau 60th Anniversary Celebration Logo

Kawerau was founded in 1954. The once bare block of land with nothing but a few trees, a river and an iconic mountain has seen a lot in the sixty years since it’s early days of development. With forestry, pulp and paper as the central industrial hub of the Eastern Bay through to more recent years with a decline in some industries, Kawerau is now looking forward to a new era of growth and optimism which will shape the next sixty years of what is one of New Zealands youngest towns.
