Topic: The Diddy Dig

Topic type:

The first Diddy Dig was held Saturday 3 September 2011 as part of the Kawerau Woodfest events.

In 2011 the inaugural Diddy Dig competition entertained the crowds with 64 students (8-10 years) from local primary schools shovelling half a cubic metre of woodchip into a bin. This was an incredible success with a team from Kawerau South School taking out the trophy. The event continued in 2012 and 2013 with South School teams retaining the trophy. In 2014, high rainfall meant the diddy dig competition was postponed from Woodfest weekend (13 September 2014) and moved to the last day of the school term (Friday 26 September 2014) with teams from South School (7 teams),  Putauaki (4 teams), Te Whata Tau o Putauaki (1 team), Otakiri school (2 teams) and St Joseph’s Matata (2 Teams) participating in the event.
